Mont Mézenc

Embed this item to access it offline
Visible from a large part of the territory with its 1753 m in height, the Mont d'Ardèche Park's summit,  saddle-shaped, is easy to recognize. In fact, Mont Mézenc is astride the border between the Haute-Loire and the Ardèche departments, who tend to amiably quarrel about it. The said summit is actually on the South side, the Ardèche's side. Contrary to its neighbour, Mont Gerbier, its gradient is rather gentle and continuous. From its top, the view is stunning, on the Ardèche side, steep and rugged, as well as on the Haute-Loire side with its gentle slopes. The difference between the two sides of the water divide is dramatique. A must climb !

Description

From the Croix de Boutières pass parking lot, cross the road and take the direction of the Geopark totem pole. Go uphill towards the house, then take the path on the left. It climbs into the woods. On your way, you will find an interpretive board. Once out of the woods, take the wide track on the left towards the Mézenc's two summits. Then you can choose to go left or right, to discover one or the other summit. The one on the right offers a view on the Boutières Cirque, the one on the left goes towards a big cross and gives a sight on Chaudeyrolles. Then retrace your steps back to the Boutières parking lot.
