La Lauzière Suc
Away from the "highways" of the Ardèche mountain, the five Sucs offer a fragile and precious haven of peace and nature. Made of wetlands, impressive rivers of stones, blueberry heath and woods, the five Sucs present, in their middle, the La Lauzière Suc, with its old quarry and its unmistakable flat top. It gives a gorgeous view on the other Sucs of the range, Mont Gerbier, Mont Mézenc, and a large part of the Ardèche mountain.  Many inhabitants of this area have a little game that consists in recognizing and naming all of the five Sucs,  each with its peculiar shape : Le Montfol, Le Sépoux, Le Séponnet, La Lauzière and Le Taupernas. So now it's your turn to try and identify them, without going out of the marked paths.

Description

  1. Go to the back of the parking lot. On a flat area, you will find a hike pole marker pointing out the direction of "Le Béage 6.9 km - Chazalès 4.8 km" . Take this direction.
  2. The path goes right along woods. You will see the Sépoux Suc, and go along a temportary pond. Cross a small scree to reach the path going into the woods.
  3. You will skirt a large area covered with stones (river of stones) on your left. Go up it then turn right on a straight track that will later wind through the forest.
  4. You will reach a hike pole marking. Take the path on the left marked with an orange cross. Then you will find crossed out PR (short-distance path) and GR (long-distance path) markings. Go uphill into a small sparse forest where the path winds around clusters of trees, then turns left.
  5. You have in front of you an area covered with heathen. You will catch a glimpse of the Lauzière foothills. The path is very clearly visible up to a plateau.
  6. You will be able to see Mont Mézenc, Mont Gerbier and the village of Les Estables, among others. Take the path going downhill in the woods.
  7. At the crossways, turn left towards "Pré du Bois 3.2 km, Le Béage 6.6 km". Follow this track for 1600 m.
  8. At the intersection, continue towards "Pré du Bois 1.6, Le Béage 5 km". After 900 m, the path turns left. Once at Pré du Bois, go right, back to the parking lot.
  • Departure : Pré du Bois, at the board "un moteur à eau pour une rivière de pierres" (a water engine for a river of stones) in Le Béage
  • Towns crossed : LE BEAGE and CROS-DE-GEORAND
